Overview

The block is a fragment of a wall system, printed in clay on a WASP 30 delta printer. Geometry and toolpath were generated in Grasshopper with the Termite plugin, which writes the print path directly rather than slicing a solid, so the wave in the surface and the triangulated web inside the cavity are both drawn as continuous extrusion lines.

One day, one part, one question: what does printing in clay do to a design that looks fine on screen. Overhangs, wall thickness, corner speed and the weight of wet material on the layers below all turned out to be geometry decisions, not machine settings. It is a small piece, but it is the reason the modular work that came later treats fabrication constraints as an input.
